Sept 7, 2018 Letter from Grandma & Grandpa Schulthies

September 7, 2018

Dear Elder Raven:
It was wonderful reading your emails last week… it sounds like you are truly enjoying your mission.  For me, the hardest was the first few months and then my mission was uphill from there.  It was wonderful seeing your family over Labor Day weekend.  We talked about you a lot and even played your piano solo Sunday morning as we got ready for church.  I’m so thankful that your mom found that on your phone before we lost it. It was pure joy listening to you play again.
The scripture we received from the Temple Presidency to study and ponder this past week was Alma 26:22 cross-referenced with Doctrine & Covenants 84:19-22.  The presidency’s ponderize comment and question was, “This scripture contains a This/Then list. If we “DO This/Then” this will be the blessing. What can we do and what can be our blessing?
22 Yea, he that repenteth and exerciseth faith, and bringeth forth good works, and prayeth continually without ceasing—unto such it is given to know the mysteries of God; yea, unto such it shall be given to reveal things which never have been revealed; yea, and it shall be given unto such to bring thousands of souls to repentance, even as it has been given unto us to bring these our brethren to repentance.

When I look up at the brilliant stars in the night-sky I think about you and how you taught me to use the app Star Walk. When your family was here the sky was beautifully clear, we felt like we could reach out and touch the constellations.  Tammy and I even saw a shooting star go right through the big dipper. We talked about you and how you see the same moon etc. from where you are. It made us feel really close to you.
Grandpa is busy busy busy getting ready for harvest.  He hopes to start combining corn next week.
We are enjoying life and love so much the opportunity to be ordinance workers in the Meridian Temple. What a blessing this is in our lives.  We love the Gospel of Jesus Christ and feel a deep love and appreciation for our Savior and for His atoning sacrifice.  We are beyond thankful that Joseph Smith had the humility and faith to “ask of God.” AND then had the strength and courage to never waiver in his testimony of what he saw and heard.  We are so thankful for you Kyle, and the desire you have in your heart to serve a mission.  May you be blessed and buoyed up in your hours of discouragement.

We love you dearly, Grandpa and Grandma Sue
